Sara Tasker - Me & Orla

Updated: Feb 9

The 11th September 2019 was one of those days where you can't quite comprehend how you got to that moment in time. In a good way, in a really good way. Those days don't come around often and meeting a personal hero face to face is almost unimaginable. But imagine I did and then, there we were, welcoming Sara Tasker to our Yorksinstameet community...

Our fifth Yorksinstameet of the year was full of exciting firsts. We were delighted to be hosting for the first time at the beautiful Newburgh Priory, yet another fabulous Yorkshire venue, in the picturesque village of Coxwold near York.

It was so lovely to see so many of you turn out once again to support, and get involved in, our growing community. The feeling from seeing so much diverse creative genius in a room, knowledge sharing, making connections - it never gets old.

Now, anyone who joined us will be able to attest to just how big a Me & Orla fan I am. I had the absolute privilege of introducing Sara on the day and any aspirations of playing it cool were left at the door, my torrent of words and nervous laughter gave the game away from the start. I started following Me & Orla in 2017, I went on to complete her e-course and I'm an avid and regular listener of her podcast. I find her journey incredibly inspiring and I hope her telling her story sparked inspirational, positive and creative thinking for all our attendees, as it did for me.

With over 216,000 Instagram followers and a podcast which has over 1 million downloads, Sara credits Instagram with changing her life and she is now using the vast knowledge she has gained over the years to help other creative businesses flourish on Instagram too.

Ensconced by the lake, Sara talked us through her experience from her foray into the world of Instagram, and her entirely relatable motivations for doing so, how she used Instagram as a spring-board into other ventures, right through to her current status of blogger, podcast and retreat host, business coach, award-winner, published author and all-round Insta-legend (our words; not hers...!). What she has achieved in 3 years is quite frankly mind-blowing and to be able to explore that with her in person was such a joy.

We were very lucky to be working with some amazingly talented new partners on this Yorksinstameet. It was exciting to be able to showcase the talents of Hare & Howl who bedecked the fabulous Your Marquee marquee and the venue with stunning floristry (go check out Elichia's fresh and whimsical approach to flowers if you haven't already - you won't regret it).

The beautiful photographs you see here were all courtesy of the lovely Liz of Lottie Brown Photography who travelled from Derbyshire to be with us. We're a huge fan of her timeless imagery and her ability to capture those fleeting moments.

We hope you all enjoyed the canapés created and served up by award-winning Baba Ganoush based in York and I also hope you managed to sample one of the fabulous mocktails created by The Yorkshire Bartender. We're not sure how we will match the food and drinks on offer at the next Yorksinstameet but we will try!

Reflecting on the day, I'm filled with hope and ambitions for all of our creative businesses. Louise and I have been working behind the scenes on some exciting new ideas for our creative community but if you have any ideas, reflections, thoughts on other things you'd like to see us offer please do let us know!

And finally, I'm going to leave you with this from the wonderful Tom Wright. It has just dropped into my inbox on this wet and dreary day and has brought more warmth and smiles than you can possibly imagine. This beautiful and sensitively captured video is the perfect record of the day. Thank you Tom for your continued support - it means so much.

Can't wait to hear what you've all been up to at the next Yorksinstameet!
